On Sunday, July 27, 2025, Leroy McIntyre, loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away at the age of 82.
Leroy was born on June 18, 1943, in Clio, SC, to John and Geneva (McDonald) McIntyre. He received his math degree from Fayetteville State University in 1967, and taught math for 3 years in Rose Hill, NC, and Richmond, VA. He went on to study at ECPI for computer programming, after which he worked as a computer programmer at Traveler’s Insurance in Hartford, CT. He retired as an IT systems analyst at Whitehall-Robins, which was eventually acquired by Pfizer.
He came back to live in Laurinburg, NC, and started MELO (Men Enhancing the Lives of Others).
He volunteered with the Chamber of Commerce's Green Committee. He believed in residents, families, friends, and even strangers working together for the betterment of our community.
On April 19, 2010, he married Chona Campoy. He has a son, Jonathan Leroi (Bridgette) McIntyre, and a daughter, Adrienne Elizabeth (Michael) Cole, from his first marriage.
Leroy loved to travel and explore places. He had been to most states in the US, went to Kenya for a Christian mission, and met Chona in the Philippines. He was a nature lover. He loved the outdoors and hiking the trails. He was also an avid music lover, and can name the tune and artist of his time right away.
Leroy was preceded in death by his parents, John and Geneva; his sister, Dory; his brothers: JC, James, and Otis. He is survived by his wife, Chona; his two children, Jonathan and Adrienne; his five grandchildren: Jorim Cole, Joseph Cole, Jada Cole, Joshua McIntyre, Jared McIntyre; his brothers: Larry, Eugene (Catherine), Herman (Vivian), Chris, Calvin, Michael (Dewanda), Darryl (Marnia); his sisters: Dorothy, Alleane (Willie), Geneva, Barbara (Clayton); and several nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 1, 2025 at Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel.
A time of visitation will be held prior to the service beginning 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
