Mrs. Leoma Polston Ward of Laurinburg passed away at the age of 94 in the late evening of March 27, 2025 surrounded by her loving family.
Born August 4, 1930 in McColl, South Carolina, Leoma was a loving daughter of the late Douglas and Lula Mae Baker Polston. She was the beloved wife of 74 years to the late James Arthur Ward, Sr., who passed in 2023. She was a wonderful homemaker along with working in textiles beginning with Waverly Mills and then retiring after 32 years from Charles Craft.
Family was her life, especially her grandchildren. One of Leoma’s favorite pastimes was sitting on her front porch and chatting with the neighbors. She loved chocolate and Pepsi Cola treating herself daily with sweat treats along with indulging in a dip of snuff. She also enjoyed cooking, shopping and family trips to the mountains. In her younger days, Leoma enjoyed sharing her talents making ceramics and floral gardening. Above all, she was a precious mother and grandmother who will deeply be missed by all of her loved ones.
In addition to her parents and husband, preceding her in death are grandson, Kevin Bolton; great granddaughters, Skylar Gibson and Hayven Gibson; sisters, Nellie Faye McKenzie and Jeanette Dameron.
Mrs. Ward leaves behind her children, son, James A. “Jim” Ward, Jr., (Rhonda) of Fuquay-Varina; daughters, Sharon Tayor of the home, Debbie Hudson (John) of Laurinburg; grandchildren, Chuck Bolton, Amie Graham (Randall), Crystal Gibson (Lee), Hannah Hudson; great grandchildren, Tristan Gibson, Aiden Gibson, Brantley Gibson, Ayla Graham, William Beckett Graham; and a host of loving nieces, nephews and her extended family.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. on Friday, April 4, 2025 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel with burial following in Hillside Memorial Park. Visitation will be held prior to services on Friday beginning at 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
