Lee Elwood Britt, Sr., age 87 of Maxton passed away Tuesday, April 13, 2021.
Lee was born January 6, 1934 in Robeson County, son of the late Leo Britt and Eva Baxley Britt. He was a hardworking man who proudly served as a Veteran in the United States Army, then working for over 30 years as a mechanic with J P Stevens. He also served with the Town of Maxton and was owner of a small engine shop. He was a member of Fresh Manna Pentecostal Holiness Church in Maxton. Lee will forever be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Jethro Britt and a great grandchild.
Lee is survived by his loving wife of almost 67 years, Delta Lay Benton Britt of the home; sons, Lee Elwood Britt, Jr. of Maxton, Lewis Wayne Britt (Edna) of McColl, SC; daughters, Wanda B. Sanderson (Phillip) of Maxton, Carolyn Chavis (Dennis) of Rowland, Janice Pittman of Maxton, Linda Clark (Craig) of Rowland; brothers, James B. Britt (Velma) of Leland, Bobby L. Britt of Laurinburg; grandchildren, Delta L. Hill, Jessica L. Bruce, April M. Britt, Howard C. Plowman, Craiganna Ellis, nine great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, two step grandchildren, six step-great grandchildren, three step great-great great grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and many friends.
A Graveside service with military honors will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 15, 2021 in Oak Grove Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Tim Hunt. The family will receive friends immediately following the service on Thursday at graveside.
