Lawrence Worrles Smith, Sr., of Laurinburg passed away at the age of 85 on June 1, 2022.

Born April 13, 1937 in Hope Mills, North Carolina, Lawrence was the loving son of the late Braxton H. Smith and Lena Mae Worrles Smith.  He was the loving and devoted husband of 53 years to the late Betty Shoemake Smith preceding him in death in 2011.  Lawrence was a Veteran who proudly served with the United States Army from 1954 until 1957.  He worked many years with Rea Magnet Wire until his retirement.

Lawrence served as a faithful member of Hillside Freewill Baptist Church.  He loved riding around looking for wildlife, enjoyed fishing, and traveling to Blowing Rock and Boone, North Carolina.  He was an avid NASCAR fan especially for the late Dale Earnhardt.  Lawrence most loved spending time with his family and enjoyed their cookouts.  He will be remembered and cherished as a loving husband, the best father and best Papa EVER !!

In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by daughter, Lenora Smith Clark; great grandson, Cameron Ratley; brothers, Bill Smith, Jessie Smith, Frank Junior Smith; sister, Daisy Newcomb; and his K9 companion, Peanut.

Lawrence leaves his children, sons, Lawrence “Larry” Smith, Jr., (Karen Parker) of Rockingham, Robert “Robbie” Alan Smith (Jackie Brown) of North Myrtle Beach, SC; daughters, Freida Smith Clark (Dale) of Laurinburg, Vickie Smith McPherson (Ronald) of Laurinburg; sister, Bonnie Hatcher of McColl, SC; grandchildren, Michael Ratley, Jimmy Joe Ratley, Delton Ray Clark, Jr., Keicia Dawn Hunt, April Clark, Lauren Smith, Ronald Wayne McPherson, Morgan Williams, Jaylin Brown, Holden Brown, Emma Parker, Drew Parker; nine great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and a host of loving family and friends.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 5, 2022 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel.  Burial with military honors will follow in Pinecrest Cemetery.    Visitation for family and friends will be from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday evening, June 4th at the funeral home.
