Lavinia Averitt Obituary

Lavinia Simmons Averitt passed away to her Heavenly home at the age of 89 on May 9, 2022. She was born on December 4, 1932 in Surry County, daughter of the late Earlie and Nonnie Simmons. She was the devoted wife to the late Seavy Averitt. Lavinia retired after many years working alongside her husband as owner and operator of Averitt’s Electric. She served as a faithful member of the Laurinburg First Baptist Church, where she enjoyed serving as a deacon and serving others in various ministries. Lavinia was a very compassionate person who loved being around others and had a special gift in visiting those who are shut-ins. She was well known for volunteering at Scotland Memorial Hospital, as well as in the gift shop at Scotia Village. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading and traveling. Lavinia cherished her family and spending time with them. To her family, she will always be remembered as a dedicated mother, loving grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, son, Ronnie Averitt (Lynne) of Laurinburg; daughters, Gay Lewis of Laurinburg, Gail Helms (Larry) of Rock Hill, SC; brothers, Sammy Ray Simmons (Linda) of Laurinburg, Don Simmons (Sandy) of Hickory; grandchildren, Myles Johnson (Marisa), Diana Graves (Bill), Shaw Lewis, III (Lyn), Chad Chance (April), Ashley Chance (Beth), Lauren Averitt, Allison Averitt; fourteen great grandchildren, seven great-great grandchildren, along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, and many friends.
