Larry Waylon Grooms, age 48 of Laurinburg passed away on July 28, 2026.
He was born September 23, 1977 in Craven County, NC to Colleen Ward Bennett and the late Larry Franklin Grooms.
Waylon had the ability to build just about anything and was always willing to lend a helping hand when something needed fixing. He had a lifelong love of sports and was a talented baseball player during his high school years. He continued his passion for the game as an adult, playing recreational softball for many years. Waylon was a devoted fan of the Atlanta Braves and the North Carolina Tarheels and enjoyed following their seasons closely. He also enjoyed golf, was an avid billiards player, and loved working with his hands, crafting items from leather. One of his greatest joys was watching Brennan play sports and cheering him on from the sidelines. Waylon never met a debate he didn’t enjoy and was famous among family and friends for proving he was right or at least making a very convincing case for it. His quick wit, sense of humor, and ability to keep everyone on their toes will be remembered fondly by all who knew him. He valued his time spent with family and friends, but especially time with Brennan. Waylon will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his son, Brennan Waylon Grooms; mother, Colleen Ward Bennett (James); sister, Melissa Dawn Grooms; and niece, Sara Kathleen Grooms; along with a host of many loving extended family and friends.
Waylon was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Harvey and Donna Ward and his paternal grandparents, Marshall and Sadie Grooms.
Funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 2, 2026 at Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel with burial following in the Hillside Memorial Park.
Visitation will be held prior to the service on Sunday beginning 2:00 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. at the funeral home.
