Kermit Locklear

Kermit “Preacher” Locklear, age 78 of Maxton, NC departed this life on May 18, 2026.

He was born August 27, 1947 in Robeson County, NC, loving son of the late Dock and Maddie Bell Locklear. Kermit worked as a farmer and was the owner and operator of 3-K construction for 60 years. He loved to go hunting and spending time with his family. Kermit will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia Ann Clark Locklear; ten brothers, James, Leon, Lacius, Arnold, Jerry, Parnell, Harold, Dock, Jr., John Gram, and Grady; and five sisters, Girlie Mae, Betsy, Mary Rose, Lois Ann, and Teresa.

Kermit is survived by sons, Kinston Locklear (Teresa), Jefferey Alton Locklear (Nicole), Kris Locklear (Ventia Lynn); daughter-in-law, Quanitia Cummings Locklear; brother, Winford Locklear; sisters, Savannah Clark and Vera; grandchildren, Monica Cummings, Christina Cummings, Lloyd Locklear, Faustine Locklear, Quentin Locklear, Jeremiah Locklear, Jefferey Locklear, Jr., James Calvin Locklear, Victoria Locklear; and twenty-five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; along with a host loving extended family and friends.

Visitation will be held at the family home, 1286 Clark Road, Maxton, NC beginning 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 21, 2026.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, May 22, 2026 at the First Assembly Church of God with burial following in the Clark Family Cemetery.
