Julia Jones McCormick of Laurinburg, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend passed to her Heavenly home at the age of 90 on Friday, April 10, 2026. Her joyful spirit will deeply be missed by all who were blessed to know her.
Julia was born February 13, 1936 in Hamlet, North Carolina, daughter of the late Peter Franklin Jones and Madge Smith Jones. She married the love of her life, Donald McCormick in 1958 and celebrated 62 years together until his passing in 2020. Along with her parents and husband, preceding her in death are sister, Peggy Barber and brother, Pete Jones.
Julia dedicated her life to loving and caring for others. She earned her nursing degree from the Baptist Nursing School in 1958. She loved her career as a Registered Nurse and later became an amazing Nursing Instructor with Richmond Community College until retiring in 2001. She faithfully served as a longtime member of Central Global Methodist Church. She enjoyed her time reading, people watching, spending time at the beach, and loved playing with her grandchildren. She loved life and lived each day to the fullest sharing her joy to all she encountered.
Julia is survived by her son, Donald Winston McCormick Jr., (Beth); her daughter, Lisa Dawn McCormick; sisters, Carolyn Jones Moore (Eddie), Gerri Jones Holden (Steve); adored grandchildren, Amber McCormick Bishop (Mike), Ashley Williams (Delton), Keith Cummings (Kaleena), Megan Locklear (Cody); great grandchildren, Kylee Jacobs (Chris), Landon Cummings (Justine), Gracie Chavis, Carter Williams, Cameron Cummings, Lukas Bishop, Dane Bustard, Liam Bishop, Kennedy Cummings, Baylee Williams, Arianna Bustard, Alexis Bustard; great-great grandchildren, Rylah Jones, Jaisley Cummings, Addie Jacobs, Colter Jacobs, and Landrie Cummings. She also leaves behind her loving extended family and many friends.
Funeral services celebrating her life will be held on Tuesday, April 14, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel with burial following in Caledonia Methodist Church Cemetery. The visitation will be one hour prior to services on Tuesday beginning at 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
