Judy Holcomb Lockey

Judy Holcomb Lockey, of Laurinburg, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at her home on July 18, 2026 at the age of 75.

Judy was born in Scotland County, North Carolina, on April 27, 1951, to the late Ruth Smith Holcomb and the late Ben Milliken Holcomb.  Along with her parents, Judy is preceded in death by her two brothers, Ben Holcomb Jr., and Robert “Bobby” Holcomb, and nephew, Billy Stevens.

Judy was a devoted and compassionate woman whose life was marked by a deep commitment to caring for others.  For many years, she was employed at Laurinburg Surgical Clinic, Dr. John H. Slaughter III, DDS, and Scotland Orthopedics, where her steady presence and dependable work made a lasting difference in the lives of patients and colleagues alike.

In her personal life, Judy was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt who welcomed everyone with kindness, warmth, and generosity.  She had a remarkable heart for giving and expressed her love in the most beautiful and simple way – by feeding those around her.  Whether, family, friends, neighbors, or anyone who happened to stop by, Judy made sure no one ever left her home hungry.

She also had a deep love for animals, especially her cats.  It was not uncommon for Judy to take in a stray she found and nursed it back to health.  Her compassion extended to all living creatures, and her kindness knew no bounds.

Judy was truly one of the most caring and loving people you could ever meet.  Her smile had a way of lighting up any room.  She had a special gift for making others feel seen, valued, and loved, and her presence brought comfort and joy to everyone around her. 

In her spare time, Judy enjoyed the simple pleasures in life.  She loved watching black-and-white movies on Turner Classic Movie Network.  She also had a passion for collecting Christmas decorations, especially her cherished Santa figurines.

She is survived by her former husband, James “Jimmy” Lee Lockey of Laurinburg, NC; her son, James “Jamie” Benjamin Lockey (Morgan) and granddaughter, Raelynn Adena of Maxton, NC. 

She is also survived by two sisters, Dorothy “Dottie” L. Hebbert (Don) of Charlotte, NC, and JoAnn Holcomb Gentry (Woody) of Maxton, NC; her nieces, April Gentry McLean of Little River, SC, and Sunny Gentry Petty of Wendell, NC: her nephews, Timmy Stevens of Boone, NC, and Robert “Pokey” Holcomb of Laurinburg, NC; her great-niece, Brooklyn Petty of Wendell, NC; and her great-nephew, Lukas Petty of Wendell, NC.  She is further survived by two very special friends, Clara Mason and Libby Graves.  

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who loved and cared for Judy throughout her life.  A special thank you to Brittney Locklear, CNNA, who helped care for Judy.

Judy’s life was a blessing to all who knew her.  Her love, kindness, and gentle spirit will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Services celebrating Judy's life will be held 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 24, 2026, at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel.  Visitation with the family will be prior to the service beginning at 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.    Burial will be private in Hillside Cemetery.
