John "Wayne" Griffin

John “Wayne” Griffin, age 86 of Laurinburg, NC, passed away on Thursday, May 4, 2023. He was the son of the late Hazel Houston Griffin and the late Ester Sutphin Griffin born on October 26, 1936 in Draper, NC,

Wayne was a proud Veteran who served in the United States Army.  He was a dedicated employee for many years as a Plant Engineer in the textile industry with Fieldcrest. Wayne was a sports enthusiast, an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves, Carolina Panthers, and the Duke Blue Devils, as well as enjoying watching NASCAR.  He was a loving father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend who will truly be missed.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Jimmy Lee Griffin.

Wayne is survived by his son, Thomas H. Griffin of Wilmington, NC; daughter, Ann Lee Griffin (David Hardy) of Gibson, NC; sisters, Shirly Ann Berghorn of California and Hazel “Gay” Randall (Robert) of Eden, NC; grandchildren, Morgan Kauffman, Brandi Gonzaleze, Houston Blackwell, Hannah Hardy; and great-grandchildren, Elijah Gonzaleze, Griffin Kauffman, and Hazel Kauffman; along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

There will be a time of visitation from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 7,2023 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel.  No other services are planned at this time.
