John "J.W." Wilton Long, Jr.

John Wilton “J.W.” Long, Jr., age 87 of Laurinburg passed away at his home on Friday, June 5, 2020.

John was born August 21, 1932 in Marlboro County, South Carolina, only son of the late John Wilton Long, Sr., and Ethel Mae Long Porter.   He was a Korean War Veteran who proudly served in the United States Army.  John loved his career as a barber, owning and operating South Main Barber Shoppe in Laurinburg for over 60 years.   He served as a member of Saint Luke United Methodist Church.  Before his illness, John loved golfing and keeping his beautiful yard.  

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Mary Frances Long.

J.W. leaves behind his devoted wife of 32 years, Ann Morrison Long of the home; his son, John Wilton Long, III of Gibson, NC; and, daughters, Carrie Long Clyburn of Bennettsville, SC, Ann Long Shampy of Laurinburg, NC; step son, Lee Teal of Gainesville, GA; and step daughter, Jan Teal Fink of Hamlet, NC; grandchildren, Eric Clyburn, Forrest Clyburn, Ben Long, Colton Long, Ashley Shampy, Trevor Shampy and four great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9, 2020 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel with burial following in Pinecrest Cemetery.     A time of visitation will be from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service on Tuesday at Richard Boles Funeral Service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to be given to Scotland Regional Hospice, P.O. Box 1033, Laurinburg, NC 28353.

Due to the Covid-19 mandates, to ensure public safety attendance for services will be limited.
