John "Dakota" Broussard Obituary

John “Dakota” Broussard was a miracle child born January 13, 2006 in Duke University Hospital undergoing his first heart surgery at just four days old.  He was adored by his parents, Jessica Taylor Deese and Kirby W. Deese.  Although his life was filled with many obstacles, Dakota lived his life to the fullest with the heart of a champion.   He passed away peacefully at the age of 19 in the early morning hour of August 30, 2025.  He will deeply be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Dakota was fighter having many accomplishments.  He was over joyed to attend his senior prom and extremely proud of being a graduate of Purnell Swett High School Class of 2025 where he loved playing on the high school tennis team. His love for music inspired him to also play drums in the school band hoping to one day produce music in his favorite of country or rap.  He had future plans to pursue a career in the Real Estate Industry.

If you knew Dakota, you knew that he never met a stranger and always had that special smile on his face.  He loved his family and cherished every moment with each of them.  He loved their camping trips and sharing in video games.  Dakota knew that he was dearly loved by all.

Preceding him in death are his grandfathers, Dovanell Locklear and Johnny “Bird Dog” Taylor.

Dakota is survived by his parents, Jessica Taylor Deese of Fuquay Varina and Kirby Deese of the home in Rowland; adored sisters, Arlenea Dial and Ruby Deese; grandmothers, Charlotte Taylor and Judy Deese; special cousin he loved as a brother, Ayden Taylor; his aunts, Jennifer “Aunt Jenn” Taylor, Natisha “Aunt TT” Jacobs and uncle Ted Jacobs; his best friend Tristan; along with a host of loving extended family and friends.

The family will have a time of visitation on Tuesday, September 2, 2025 from 3:00 until 4:00 p.m. at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel.    All other services will be private.

In Dakota’s memory, donations may be given to Duke Children’s Hospital.
