Mr. John Henry Uncapher of Laurinburg, departed this life at the age of 84 on August 31, 2025.
He was born in Madison, Kansas on September 1, 1940, loving son of the late Daniel Milton Uncapher and the late Willa Patteson Uncapher. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. John retired from Chrysler Corporation working as an automotive assembly lineman for many dedicated years. He was an active member of Central Global Methodist Church where he faithfully served until his health declined. John had a servant’s heart and as part of his ministry to God, he made wooden crosses as spiritual gifts for others. He was a talented woodworker and was fondly known as the “Canjo Man” as he hand-made canjo’s for our soldiers. John also loved remodeling the homes of his family residences. Of all the things he enjoyed, spending time with his family was his greatest treasure. John was a loving husband, father, adored grandfather, great-grandfather, and devoted friend who will be dearly missed.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by all eleven of his siblings.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 59 years, Margaret Cowey Uncapher of the home; sons, Joseph Daniel Uncapher (Heather) of Kokomo, Indiana, John Kelly Uncapher (Kelly) also of Kokomo, Indiana, and James Justin Uncapher (Leanne Stofko) of Plainfield, Illinois; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; special family, Betty Smith of Maxton, Virginia Cowey of Laurinburg, Kelly Cowey, Jr. of Laurel Hill; and special sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ruth and John McKenzie of Laurel Hill; along with many loving family and friends.
No services are being planned at this time; however, the family will be receiving friends at their home.
