Joann Haywood Shoemake, age 76 of Laurel Hill, North Carolina passed away on September 29, 2023.
Joann was the daughter of the late Clarence Everett Haywood and the late Evelyn Grooms Haywood Bolton born February 19, 1947 in Marlboro County, South Carolina. She was a homemaker, devoted wife to the late Billy Joe Shoemake and a loving mother and grandmother. Joann worked in textiles with Hanes Mills, later joining Abbott Laboratories and retiring after many years of service. She was a faithful member of the Fletcher Chapel Wesleyan Church since 1989 where she served as Sunday School Teacher and Children’s Church. She loved caring for others and also served as a volunteer with Scotland Regional Hospice. Joann enjoyed many hobbies including photography, floral gardening, jewelry crafting and truly loved music and singing gospel music with her trio. Above all, she cherished her time shared with family.
Along with her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by sons, Jonathan Lee Jones, Sr., and Jarrod Lee Jones; sisters, Margaret Haywood Burandt, Diane Bolton Clark; and great grandson, Jackson Asher Jones.
Joann is survived by her son, Julian Lee Jones (Shirlena) of Keystone, FL; special niece, Tara Stufkosky along with a host of adored grandchildren, great grandchildren and loving family.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at the Fletcher Chapel Wesleyan Church with burial following in the church cemetery. Family will receive friends prior to service beginning at 2:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the church.
