Jo Ann Craven Obituary

Jo Ann Breeden Craven of Gibson departed this life for her Heavenly home at the age of 89 on October 31, 2024.

She was the loving daughter of the late Arthur James Breeden and the late Sarah Martha Davis Breeden, born July 24, 1935 in Maxton, NC.  Jo Ann was a graduate of Maxton High School and completed her nursing training at Mercy Hospital in Charlotte. Her love of helping others led to a fulfilling career of 38 years as a Registered Nurse with Scotland Memorial Hospital until retiring. She served as a longtime, faithful member of St. Johns United Methodist Church where she began the First Prayer Shaw Ministry. Jo Ann enjoyed crocheting, watching television, reading Christian books, and traveling to the beach. Her greatest joy came from time spent with family and the memories they created.   Jo Ann will be greatly missed and remembered for her love and devotion to family and friends.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by husband, William “Bill” Craven; brothers, William Breeden, Richard Breeden, Jimmy Breeden; sister, Linda McClendon; and grandson, BJ Hardie.

Left to cherish her memory is son, James “Jim” Allen Woodard, Jr., of the home; daughters, Pamela “Susan” Hardie (David), and Barbara “Diane” Hardie (Roy) both of Laurel Hill; step sons, Thomas Sharp (Susan) of Columbia, SC, Bob Caulder (Judy) of Laurinburg, Kirby Caulder (Katherine) of Wagram; step daughters, Glenda Curry (Bill) of Birmingham, AL, Brenda Leach (John) of Maryland, Rena Peurifoy (Scott) of Columbia, SC; brother, David Breeden (Jackie) of Ocean Isle Beach; sisters, Jane Williford of Ocean Isle Beach, Toni Carole Bruce (Kenneth) of Maxton, Anita Stanton of Cherryville, Sandy McKenzie (Jim) of Laurinburg; grandchildren, Melissa, Dana, Amanda, Keith; step grandson, Ryan; thirteen grandchildren; twenty one great-grandchildren; along with many loving nieces, nephews, extended family, and devoted friends.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 4, 2024 at the St. Johns United Methodist Church with burial following in the Richmond County Memorial Park.    Visitation will be held prior to the services on Monday, beginning at 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the church.
