In the early morning of June 19, 2025, Jimmie Dean Long, our forever humorous and loving Jimmie Dean Long passed away at the age of 81 surrounded by the love of his family. A beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend who will dearly be missed.
He was born December 8, 1943, son of the late Howard and Phandora Moore Long of Forsyth County, North Carolina. Jimmie loved growing up in Tobaccoville where he made many life-long friendships. He proudly served in the United States Army and was a Vietnam War Veteran bravely paratrooping with the 173rd Airborne and the 82nd Airborne. Following his tour of duty, he began a long successful career as a building contractor along with being a mentor to many of the younger generations. He was a dear friend and inspiration in the community of Tobaccoville and King, NC, before making his home in Laurinburg. He continued to faithfully served as a member of the Jefferson Christian Church in Rural Hall, NC.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by grandson, Brandon Moore.
Jimmy is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Kaye Long of their home in Laurinburg, NC; children, Monica Davis (Kevin) and Michael Moore (Sharon), Christopher Moore (Michele); grandchildren, Ricky Barber, Jessica Barber, Jonathan Moore (Rachel), Katherine Moore, Sam Moore, Chelsea Chandler (Elijah), Zachary Smith; special great grandchildren, Hunter, Ryder, Haley, Miley, Jayden, Chase, Cameron, LeeAnn, Bella, Deacon, Caydence; along with a host of special devoted friends.
The family wishes to give special gratitude to the staff of Scotland Regional Hospice and Morrison Manor, Scotland Cancer Treatment Center, and the Veterans Administration of Kernersville, NC for devoted care in their time of need.
A memorial gathering will be held on Sunday, July 13, 2025 from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. at the Alice Watts Tuttle Community Center, 4225 Tobaccoville, Road, Tobaccoville, NC 27050.
