Jerry Wayne “JW” Locklear, loving son of Lillie Mae Clark Locklear and the late Arnold Wilson Locklear, Sr., was born April 11, 1959 in Robeson County, North Carolina. After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Jerry passed away at the age of 64 on September 9, 2023.
JW had a long career with the Campbell Soup Company retiring after 34 years of dedicated service in the shipping department. He served his community as a volunteer fireman with the Stewartsville Fire Department and proudly led as their Fire Chief for two years. Before his illness, JW was a faithful and active member of the New Hope Baptist Church where he was so thankful to have had a part in helping with the construction of the Sanctuary. He also enjoyed camping trips with family, gardening, and servicing and repairing lawn mowers. JW’s happiest times were those shared with his family.
JW is survived by his devoted wife of 16 years, Linda Currie Locklear of their home in Laurinburg; son, Dustin Wayne Locklear of Conway, SC; step son, Jason Brigman of Laurinburg and step daughter, Kim Brigman of Laurinburg; his mother, Lillie Mae Clark Locklear; brothers, Arnold Wilson “Buddy” Locklear, Jr., (Michelle), Hal Evans Locklear, Jimmy Sinclair Locklear (Carlene), Lloyd William Locklear (Arlene) all of Laurinburg; sisters, Shirley Ford (Ed) of Laurinburg, Delores Berry and Patricia Vicente both of Maxton, Kay Britt (Nathan) of Laurinburg; granddaughter, Kayla Brigman along with his loving nieces, nephews and many devoted friends.
Funeral services will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at New Hope Baptist Church with burial following in the Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the services on Wednesday beginning at 4:30 p.m. until 5;30 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church.
