Mrs. Jean “Jeanette” Ray Powell, beloved wife, wonderful mother and grandmother, devoted sister, aunt and friend, entered into her eternal Heavenly home at the age of 91 on the evening of November 14, 2025.
Jeanette was one of eighteen children of the late Walter and Claudia Lee Ray born December 23, 1933 in Scotland County, North Carolina. She married the love of her life, Luther Powell on July 16, 1954 and blessed to be the mother of three sons. She dedicated her life to the love and care of her family as a homemaker filling their home with Christian love. She served the Lord her entire life and was a devoted member of the Salem Holiness Church, Inc. She loved and enjoyed life, reading her Bible, cooking for her family along with sewing and helping others in need. Above all, Mrs. Powell loved spending time with her family. She will dearly be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by brothers, Alton Ray, Curtis Odell Ray, Dudley Ray, Jerry Ray, Walter Ray, Jr., Lacy Ray, Boyce Ray, Morris Ray; and sisters, Mary Beane and Gladys Walters.
Mrs. Powell leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband of 71 years, Pastor Luther David Powell of their home in Laurinburg; three sons, Jerry W. Powell and wife Kathy, Rev. Michael D. Powell and wife Deborah, Gary M. Powell and wife Mary; adoring grandchildren, Daniel Powell (Andrea), Chad Powell (Crystal), Amber Powell (Joe), Krystal Rameriz (Jaime); and great grandchildren, Paige Powell, Brooke Powell, Hunter Powell, Conner Powell, Cooper Powell, Ezequiel Rameriz; brothers, Bobby Ray and wife, Pat, Billy Ray, Ellis Ray and wife, Sandra; sisters, Betty Ray Powell, Maxine Ray Moser, Irene Ray Hegwer, Sherrill Ray Beane. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and her extended loving family.
Visitation will be held on Monday evening, November 17, 2025 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Salem Holiness Church, Inc.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 18th at the Salem Holiness Church, Inc. followed by graveside committal in Hillside Memorial Park.
