Mr. James William “Yankee” Robinson of Bennettsville, South Carolina departed this life at the age of 94 for his Heavenly home on September 22, 2025.
He was born on July 12, 1931 in Marlboro County, South Carolina, adored son of the late James Jack Robinson and the late Rose Paul Robinson. Yankee successfully owned a pine straw business for forty years and was a devoted employee with JP Stevens, Inc., for twenty-nine years until retiring. He served as a faithful member of Ghio Church of God of Prophecy.
Yankee’s love of the outdoors was evident as a farmer, raising hogs, tending his garden, fishing, and rabbit hunting. Yankee could also be found working on his tractors or cars. He was an avid NASCAR racing fan, especially for the late Dale Earnhardt. He had a way of always making you laugh, usually with a funny story or joke to tell. Whenever you saw Yankee, he had a smile on his face and was always wearing a ballcap. He was deeply loved by his family and will be dearly missed.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his adored wife, Novella Chavis Robinson; brothers, Paul Robinson, Ernest Robinson, Sam Robinson, Hubert “Buck” Robinson; and sisters, Bertha Mae Knight, Lucille “Skeet” Robinson, and Elise Miles.
Left to cherish his memory are sons, Donnie Robinson (Geraldine) and Dennis Robinson (Michelle) each of Hamlet, NC; daughters, Wanda Alford (Terry) of McColl, SC, Joann Humphries also of McColl, SC, Gail Leviner (Ronnie) of Wallace, SC; sister, Rose Anderson of Laurinburg, NC; thirteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; twelve great-great-grandchildren; along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, September 26, 2025 at Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel with burial following in Ghio Church of God of Prophecy Church Cemetery.
