James Franklin "Frank" Laviner

James Franklin Laviner, lovingly known as "Frank," peacefully entered his heavenly home on July 16, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was a beloved husband of 69 years, a devoted father, a proud and present grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. Frank's life was a beautiful reflection of faith, love, and unwavering dedication to his family. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and countless cherished memories that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Frank, the youngest of the family, was born on April 9, 1938, in Dillon County, South Carolina, to the late Manley Lewis Laviner and Lillie Mae Scott Laviner. On November 21, 1953, he married his best friend and the love of his life, Bertha Mae Luther Laviner, beginning a beautiful marriage that spanned 69 years and was a testament to enduring love, faith, and devotion. Together, Frank and his beloved wife were blessed with three children. They lovingly raised two children in their home, Melaine and Mike, while holding close in their hearts the precious child who was called home to be with the Lord at an early age, Larry. They were long time members of the Wagram Church of God and founding members of Wagram Emanuel Holiness Church. 

Frank found joy in life's simple pleasures. He loved spending time fishing and boating, attending car shows, and admiring classic cars. He enjoyed camping in his RV, tinkering on projects in his spare time, and never missed an opportunity to gather around the table for Sunday dinners with his family. Frank also had a playful personality and never met a stranger, especially if there was a pretty lady nearby. Above all, he treasured the time he spent with those he loved most.

Along with his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Laviner; his son, Larry Franklin Laviner; and his sister, Bessie Mae Todd.

Frank leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Melaine Laviner Sutherland and husband, Bill, of Wagram; his son, James Michael "Mike" Laviner and wife, Karen, of Wagram; and his sister, Evelyn Luther of Wagram. He was the proud and loving grandfather of Michael "David" Laviner and wife, Kimberly "Kim", and James "Jamie" Robert Laviner. He was also blessed with great-grandchildren, Kaylee Laviner Locklear and husband, Zachary; Lauren Olivia Laviner and her special friend, Luke Preslar; and James Sawyer Laviner. His greatest joy in his later years was being "Pa Frank" to his great-great-grandchildren, Averlee, Jameson, and Grayson Locklear, all of whom brought immeasurable happiness to his life.

For 88 years, Frank lived a life that bore witness to the goodness and faithfulness of God. Through seasons of joy and sorrow, blessings and trials, he remained a testament to God's grace. His unwavering love for his family, his kind spirit, and his steadfast faith leave behind a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew him. While his presence will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort in knowing that he has heard the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant," and is now rejoicing in the presence of his Lord and Savior.

The family will receive friends during a visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at the Wagram Church of God. Funeral services celebrating the life of Frank Laviner will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at the Wagram Church of God, officiated by Bishop Ethan Jacobs. Burial will follow the service at Spring Hill Cemetery. 

In honor of the compassionate care shown to his late wife, Bertha, by the dedicated staff of Scotland Hospice, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to Hospice of Scotland County, P.O. Box 1033, Laurinburg, NC 28353, in lieu of flowers.
