James Griggs Obituary

Mr. James Page Griggs of Laurinburg, NC, departed this life for his Heavenly home at the age of 91, on March 19, 2023.

Born March 4, 1932, in Chesterfield County, South Carolina, he was the loving son of the late Manley Oscar Griggs, and the late Clara Rivers Griggs. James was a graduate of Clemson College and was a proud United States Army Veteran. He worked for many years with Delta Corporation until his retirement. James and his beloved wife, Judith Prevatte Griggs shared a beautiful life together until her passing in 2018. He formerly served as a former volunteer with Spartanburg County Sheriff Department, enjoyed riding in his Mercedes, and reading his Bible. James loved his family, his time together with grandson, Brandon and the memories they shared. His last days were a precious time living with his daughter, Elinda and Mike. James was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend who will be greatly missed.

Along with his parents and his wife, he is preceded in death by his siblings, Thomas Griggs and Lucille Sebren.

He is survived by his daughter, Elinda Turner and husband, Michael of Laurinburg, NC; grandson, Michael “Brandon” Turner of Laurinburg, NC; and sister, Sara Jeane Page of Spartanburg, SC; and sister-in-law, Jolinda Creech (Tommy).

Memorial donations are requested to be made to the Berry Home for Boys in Georgia or Thornwell Charter School, 203 West Calhoun Street, Clinton, SC 29325

A private graveside memorial service is being planned for a later date.
