On the early morning of July 14, 2024, Mr. Jack Cousins, Jr., of Laurinburg passed to his Heavenly home at the age of 88.
Jack was the beloved son of the late Benjamin Walter Cousins and Virginia Roberts Cousins born October 22, 1935 in Danville, Virginia. He proudly served our country in the United States Army during the Bay of Pigs Invasion. Jack loved his career in retail sales working many years caring for customers with Cato, Belk and then with the R.B. Alexander Shoe Company until his retirement. He was a Godly gentleman who faithfully served as a longtime member of Stewartsville Baptist Church. Jack was passionate about his card ministry, sending messages of love, celebration, hope and encouragement to his family, friends or those needing a special note of uplifting.
For those who knew Jack, NASCAR Racing was a part of his life. He loved the sport, attended as many races as possible, especially Charlotte Motor Speedway where he owned special family seating for over 40 years. Jack was awarded the NASCAR -Charter Member Hall of Fame for Charlotte 2010 – 2023. His photo is also proudly displayed on the Wall of Fame of the Charlotte Motor Speedway. He honorably served many years as a member of the N.M.P.A Jack was most proud of his collection of NASCAR memorabilia along with the cherished friendships formed and held over the years.
Jack had many special friends whom he enjoyed daily chats at the Coffee Club over breakfast and then lunchtime with the Lunch Bunch. Serving others and his community were also important as a lifelong member of the Laurinburg Kiwanis Club. Above all, Jack loved and adored his family cherishing every moment with each of them, especially the grandchildren who called him Papa Jack.
Jack is survived by his devoted wife of 39 years, Ginger Cousins of their home; children, Robert Lunsford (Cindy) of Aberdeen, and Cassie Scott (Brian) of Pinehurst; his adored grandchildren, Alex Scott, Aaron Scott, Caleb Lunsford, Jesse Lunsford, and Lexi Lunsford. He also leaves behind his brother, Harry Evans; sisters, Maggie Lingor (John) and Virginia Colbert (Bill) along with a host of nieces, nephews, many devoted friends, including his special friends, Johnny and Debbie Quick.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 18, 2024 at the Stewartsville Baptist Church with Rev. Rodney Coe and Rev. Woody Byrd officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Hillside Memorial Park. Visitation will be prior to services on Thursday beginning at 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Stewartsville Baptist Church,
