Ida Elizabeth Norton was granted her Angel Wings on September 1, 2021 at her Laurel Hill home.
Ida was born on September 1, 1928 in Richmond County to Lonnie and Litlie Paul English. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her infant daughter, Clara Norton; husband, Willie Lawrence Norton; brothers, Percy English, Junior English; sister, Eliza Robson.
Ida was an active member of Outreach for Jesus for 28 years and served her Lord since she was a young girl, always following His path. She worked 43 years at Morgan Mills in Laurel Hill, and before retiring, worked in the Quality Control department. Ida was a virtuous woman, putting her family’s needs before her own. She was a loving mother, hard worker, peacemaker, and faithful to God. She was blessed with a kind and caring heart, always helping others. Her family was huge but she loved each and everyone in her own special way. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and the family gathering on special occasions. Watching hummingbirds feed, brought delight to her heart and she even named each one. Other interests were watching Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, college basketball, and baseball. She didn’t sunbathe, but loved the beach. Her favorite television minister was John Hagee, receiving his heartfelt messages daily. Our mother has gone to be with her Savior at her eternal home with Jesus, her family, old and new friends. Well done.
She is survived by her sons, Danny Norton (Dorothy) of Laurel Hill, Larry Norton (Cathy) of McColl, SC, Teddy Norton (Pat) of Laurinburg; daughters, Patsy Coates (Ricky), Kathy Stanley (Billy), Phyllis Walters (Jerry), all of Laurinburg, Goldie Cheek (David) of Aberdeen; brothers, James Carl English of Bennettsville, SC, Wesley English of Hamlet, seventeen grandchildren, forty-one great grandchildren, thirty great-great grandchildren, along with a multitude of nieces, nephews, and friends.
