Henry Buchanan Thompson, Jr.

Henry Buchanan Thompson, Jr., was born November 21, 1930 in Passaic, New Jersey, son of the late Henry Buchanan Thompson, Sr. and Alyce King Thompson. He was a Veteran who proudly served our country in the United States Army, then going on to serve in the United States Air Force. After his years in the service, Henry had a long career with the United States Postal Service. Henry was a faithful member of Stewartsville Baptist Church where he enjoyed serving the Lord, singing in the choir and going on mission trips with the church. He volunteered with the NC Baptist Disaster Relief Team and United Way. He loved participating in the Senior Games every year and was known as the “Bowling King”. Henry was an avid sports fan, and as a young man, played semi-pro football and later coached with the American Legion. His greatest joy was spending time with family and will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. His infectious smile and kind heart will be missed by all who knew him. Henry passed away to his Heavenly home at age 90 on May 29, 2021.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Henry Thompson; brothers, Alfeios Thompson, Wallace K. Thompson, Sr., Gerald Thompson, and sister, Gloria Leake.

Henry leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Brenda Manor Thompson of the home; sons, Derrick Thompson of Raeford, Carl Boyd of New Jersey; daughters, Donna Thompson Barron of Georgia, Simone Boyd of Cary; five grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Funeral services to celebrate his life will be Saturday, June 12, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Stewartsville Baptist Church followed by military honors. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Saturday from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. at the church.
