Harry Lee McMillan

Mr. Harry Lee McMillan, 66 of Red Springs, departed this earth on January 3, 2025 at UNC Chapel Hill Memorial Hospital. He was born on November 22, 1958 in Hamlet, NC to the late Mrs. Marcie Pierce McMillan and Mr. Belton McMillan. 

He is now rejoicing in Heaven with his new body and embracing several family members who left this earth before him: his sisters Mrs. Barbara Anderson and Mrs. Alice Henderson, his parents, and many beloved dogs. 

Harry was known to love three things: God, his family, and the UNC Tar Heels. He leaves behind his wife of 42 years, Reba McMillan, his children Benjamin McMillan (Erica) of Lumberton, NC, Andrew McMillan (Ashley) of Apex, NC, David McMillan (Emmy) of Raleigh, NC, and Carolina McMillan (Dustin) of Jacksonville, FL. He also leaves behind six grandchildren that he considered life’s greatest joys: Landon, Caleb, Zanna, Levi, Bentley, and Miles. He also leaves behind a brother Belton McMillan of Pembroke, NC (Diane), his sister Madius Flanagan of Maxton, NC, and his sister Janice McMillan of Matthews, NC. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, and others that were special to him.

Harry poured his heart into his roles as a husband, father, and papa. Whether it was reading a book on the beach with the love of his life beside him, watching a Tar Heel game with his children, or pretending to be a zombie while he chased his grandchildren - he was the best of the best.  He taught his grandchildren that there was no problem that cookies and ice cream couldn’t fix, especially a bowl of grape ice cream. 

In addition to his family, Harry was devoted to his career as a physical therapist. He graduated with a degree in Physical Therapy from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1981, earning himself the honor of the first Lumbee male physical therapist. He spent many years with Healthkeeperz and Scotland Memorial Hospital, where coworkers and patients alike admired his kindness and sense of humor. Harry had an endless reserve of corny dad jokes; even up to his last moments. 

He was blessed with countless friends that felt like family, including his classmates from Prospect High School Class of 1977 and his SandHills Emmaus Soul Brothers. He spent many years volunteering with Boy Scouts of America and being a dedicated member of St. Paul’s Methodist Church. God gifted Harry with a heart for others and even after death, Harry continues to help others as an organ donor. 

Our heartfelt thanks to the staff of UNC Chapel Hill Memorial Hospital and Scotland Memorial Hospital for providing such excellent and compassionate care to Harry over the past few weeks. 

Harry’s absence will leave a void that can never be filled for those who knew and loved him, but we find comfort in knowing that he is finally at home with Jesus shouting “Go Heels!”

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 10, 2025 at the St. Paul’s Methodist Church.  A private interment will be at a later date.   Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday evening, January 9th at Richard Boles Funeral Service.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be given in Harry’ s memory to the Sandhills Emmaus Walk, St. Paul’s Methodist Church for Missions, or The Gideons International.

Those attending the visitation are requested to wear your favorite collegiate attire.
