Harold Livingston Covington

Harold Livingston Covington, age 88 of Hamlet, passed to his Heavenly home on the morning of July 24, 2026.  He will deeply be missed by those blessed to have known him.

Born June 6, 1938 in Marlboro County, South Carolina, son of the late Thomas Lincoln Covington and the late Alena McGee Covington.  The family moved to North Carolina in 1946 where he considered it home for the remainder of his life.  He proudly enlisted and served his country in the United States Navy.  He married the love of his life, Doris Gibson and together shared many wonderful years together.  His life work was in manufacturing retiring from Railroad Friction after many years of service.  

Harold loved and adored his family and sharing precious time with each of them.  He also enjoyed writing and listening to music, especially old country and gospel music.  After losing his wife of 52 years, he found enjoyment in the friendships he made at the East Rockingham Senior Center.  

In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by brothers, Thomas “Mack” Covington, Frank R. Covington, Donald Covington; sisters, Hazel Drescher, Geneva Rhinefield, Clara Dobbins, Naomi Alford, Carol Covington.

Mr. Covington is survived by son, Harold “Dwayne” Covington of Huntersville, NC; and daughter, Nancy Covington Caulder and her husband, Ronald of Laurel Hill, NC; five adored grandchildren and two great grandchildren;  siblings, Mary Lou Covington of Cheraw, SC, William “Bill” Covington (Kathy) of Rockingham, NC, Dorothy Locklear of Laurinburg, NC, Edwin Covington of Charlotte, NC, Judy Llowe of Elizabeth City, NC; along with a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.

A graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28, 2026 at the Tabernacle Church Cemetery, Laurel Hill, NC.  The family will receive friends follow the service at graveside.
