Gregory James Tyrone

Gregory James Tyrone, of Red Springs, NC, passed away on Friday, September 26, 2025 at the age of 81.

He was born in Clay County, Iowa on December 11, 1943 to the late James and Fanchion Tyrell Tyrone. Gregory served in the Navy, Army and Army Reserves prior to his career with the North Carolina Department of Corrections lastly retiring as a propane gas truck driver. He enjoyed spending time outdoors gardening, fishing and pigeon racing.  He especially enjoyed caring for his gamecocks as a longtime hobby.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Patrick Oliver; sister, Rita Tyrone; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.  

Gregory is survived by sons, Nathan Tyrone (Erica) of Waxhaw, NC; Curtis Tyrone of Nebraska; Gregory Tyrone of Arizona; Christian Tyrone (Mary) of Alabama; and Danny O’Galvin (Chona) of Virginia; daughters, Marion Blum of Nebraska; and Joanna Sanchez of Texas; sister, Kelly Dixon of Virginia: twenty-one grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; along many loving extended family and friends.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 3, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. in Hillside Memorial Park.

Visitation will be held prior to the service on Friday beginning at 1:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. at Richard Boles Funeral Service.
