Gordon “Bill” Jennings Bowen, age 78 of Laurinburg passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2020.
Bill was born October 25, 1941 in Marlboro County, South Carolina, son of the late Thomas “Tom” C. Bowen and Etta Oxendine Bowen. He worked many years as the owner of Bowen’s Liquor Store. To his family, he will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Albert Bowen, Alfred Bowen, Clemson Bowen and sisters, Helen Skipper, Edith Bowen, Annie Ruth Hunt, and Hazel Locklear.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Whiteside Bowen of the home; daughters, Whitney Stone Locklear, Jennifer Stone, Cindy Ward (Gibby Peele), Tammy McCarter (Rodney), Tonia Verone; ten grandchildren, five great grandchildren, along with his loving nieces, nephews and many friends.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 25, 2020 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel, officiated by Pastor Kenneth Blease. Burial will follow in Priest Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Saturday from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
