Mrs. Geraldine Laviner Rhue, age 83 passed away on May 10, 2023.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 16th at the Laurinburg Presbyterian Church. The family will greet visitors after the Service in the Church Fellowship hall. A private burial will take place in Hillside Memorial Park.
She is survived by her son, District Court Judge the Hon. Chris Rhue and wife, Dr. Jennifer Isenhour Rhue, and her beloved granddaughter, Vivienne Grace Rhue of Wagram, NC; her brother, Billy Gene Laviner of Lillington, NC. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Lonnie Benford Laviner, Horace Laviner and her sisters, Esther Laviner Ace and Doris Laviner Moser.
Born February 21, 1940 in Wagram, Geraldine was a daughter of the late Lonnie Edward Laviner and Minnie Rae Laviner. She graduated from Wagram High School in 1959 and attended Flora McDonald College in Red Springs, NC.
She then began working at Burlington Industries in Raeford, and then at Ingraham Time Products in Laurinburg until her birthday, February 21, 1970 when she married the love of her life, Richard Windly “Captain” Rhue who preceded her in death in 2015. She loved caring for others and was a full-time caregiver for her mother for six years until her death. She then returned to the work force at Atlas Soundolier in Laurinburg until her retirement to support her son in finishing his education. Geraldine loved to garden, tend to her five acres of grape vines and cook her home-grown fresh produce for her family and neighbors to enjoy.
Her life was a living example of her favorite Bible verse Ephesians 4:32, “And be ye kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another even as God for Christs sake hath forgiven you."
Prior to Geraldine passing, she lived happily at Magnolia Gardens Assisted Living in Southern Pines, NC for six years. The family gives a special thank you to Debbie Ogburn and all the staff who gave her the best of care.
Memorials are requested to be given to the Scotland Memorial Foundation, 500 Lauchwood Drive, Laurinburg, NC 28352.
There will be a visitation on Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Richard Boles Funeral Service.
