George Radford Obituary

George Radford, age 86, of McColl, SC, left this earth on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 to his eternal home. He leaves behind to cherish his memory two children: daughter, Susan Radford of Gibson, NC, and son, Ross Radford (Allison) of Bennettsville, SC; five grandchildren: Whitney, Zachary, Levi, Emma and Chloe; four great-grandchildren; Krista, Brayden, Gabriella and Dakota; one sister: Hazel Walters of Fayetteville, NC; two brothers: Marvin Radford (Carolyn) of Laurel Hill, NC and Robert Radford (Barbara) of McDonough, GA and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wonderful, sweet wife of 59 years, Sarah Clark Radford, his father and mother, Marvin Radford, Sr., and Isabell Brigman Radford; and brother, Charles (Linda) Radford.

George was always known for being a strong, hard worker. After leaving the Army with Occupation Medal (Berlin), he held several textile and driving jobs before starting to work for Roadway in 1969 and retiring in 1996. After his retirement, he would spend most of his days on his lawnmower. One of his greatest joys in life was working in his well-manicured yard. He would often tell his family that yard work was his medicine.

He was saved in December of 1973 at Friendship Holiness Church and devoted the remainder of his life to serving God and the church. He volunteered his time in the grounds work, taught Sunday School and whatever he could do to further the work of God. George was Deacon at McColl Pentecostal Fire-Baptized Holiness Church where he faithfully attended for many years with perfect attendance most of that time.

Even at 86, George had an excellent memory and loved sharing memories from his past with everyone, and he had an immense amount of stories to share about him, his family and friends, their pranks and adventures. He will always be missed and his life will be remembered through his many expressions.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at the McColl Pentecostal Fire-Baptized Holiness Church with burial following in Pinecrest Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 19, 2024, at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel.
