Geneva Chavis Huggins of Maxton passed away to her Heavenly home at the age of 91 on September 11, 2025. She was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother who will dearly be missed.
She was the daughter of the late Gus and Sadie Wilkes Chavis born January 18, 1934 in Robeson County, NC. Along with being a homemaker, she enjoyed her work in textiles with JP Stevens, Inc., until retiring. She believed in helping others and enjoyed being a care giver to her family members. She served as a member of the Gray Pond Baptist Church. She always enjoyed her time gardening and working in the yard. Above all, sharing time with her family was Geneva’s greatest joy.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by sons, Glen Locklear, Gilbert Locklear, Timmy Locklear; step daughter, Pam Huggins; granddaughter, Reva Shane Locklear; all of her siblings, Elbert Chavis, Chalmers Chavis, Gus Chavis, Jr., Spencer Chavis, Lena Jacobs, Claire Chavis, and Nancy Chavis.
Geneva is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Emory Huggins, Jr., of their home; sons, Crawford Locklear of Hamlet, Alex Shane Locklear wife, Angel of Maxton; daughters, Betty Jo Locklear of Rockingham, and Donna Huggins of Red Springs; daughter-in-law, Debbie Locklear; four grandchildren, Gilbert Locklear, Jr., Flossie Freeman, Timmy Ray Locklear, Jr., Glenn Locklear, Jr.; step grandchildren, Ashley Locklear, Timothy Locklear, Joe Locklear, Niki Ortiz, Nina Miranda; twenty great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren. She also leaves sisters-in-law, Bessie Chavis and Betty Chavis; host of nieces and nephews, extend family and her special caregiver, Sequoya Chavis.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 16, 2025 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel with burial following in the Stewartsville Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held prior to the service on Tuesday beginning at 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
