Mr. Gary Blue, born on April 30, 1943, departed this life and entered his eternal rest on March 3, 2026. His 82 years reflected a life grounded in hard work, determination, and a passion for farming that shaped the values he passed on to his family. He married the love of his life, Mary Blue, on December 7, 1963, and they had five children, Ricky Blue (Shawna) of Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina; Gary Blue (Renee) of Greenville, South Carolina; Denise Hunt (Timothy) of Maxton, North Carolina; Chris Blue (Tammy) of Laurinburg, North Carolina; and Richard Blue of Maxton, North Carolina.
Gary was the son of the late Woodberry and Sallie Blue. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Blue. He is survived by his five children, as well as their grandchildren-Meghan, Courtney, Kalyne, Holden, Hunter, Colin, Ethan, Jasmin, Samuel, Elijah, Malachi, and Zoe, and great granddaughter, Jade Blue. He is also survived by his sister, Evion Jorgenson.
He retired from Pioneer Hi-Bred International in 2009. After retirement, he didn’t slow down, he continued working on his beloved farm. Each summer, his garden was plentiful and filled with vegetables that he proudly shared with family and friends. Working the land brought him a sense of purpose, and he took pride in seeing the fruits of his labor grow from season to season.
He also valued service and fellowship within his community. He was a dedicated member of the Masonic Lodge in Maxton, where he served in leadership roles and remained committed to the principles of brotherhood, service, and integrity that guide the Masonic tradition. He treasured time with his grandchildren, often taking them hunting, sharing stories of our family’s history, and teaching them the importance of farming in our community.
Even in his absence, the passion he had for the land and the lessons he taught about hard work will remain deeply rooted in the lives of his family.
Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at Gray Pond Baptist Church with entombment following in the Oxendine Family Cemetery.
The family will have a time of visitation prior to the service on Saturday beginning 2:00 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. at the church.
