Flora Morgan Morton

Flora Morgan Morton of Maxton passed away at the age of 93 on Tuesday, September 10, 2024.

Flora was the daughter of the late Robert M. Morgan, Jr., and the late Evalyn Sellers Morgan born August 5, 1931 at her home in Maxton, NC.  She lived her entire life in Maxton receiving her education at Peace College and Flora McDonald College.  She married Emmett H. Morton, Jr., on February 27, 1955 sharing a life of love and devotion with their children until his passing. Along with being a homemaker, Flora had a long career with the United States Postal Service retiring after 25 years of service. She faithfully served as a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church of Maxton.

Flora loved her community and was extremely involved in many aspects of enjoyment and service.  She loved gardening, was a Master Gardener who enjoyed being a member of the Garden Club. Playing Bridge with her Bridge Club brought many years of continued competition and fellowship.  She proudly served on the Zoning Board, Historical Society, School Board and Student Club.  She also enjoyed her time bird watching, antiquing and especially shopping.   Above all, Flora cherished her family and their time shared together.

Along with her parents and husband, preceding her in death are her daughter, Betsy Morton; brothers, McKay Morgan and Gilbert S. Morton.

Mrs. Morton is survived by her sons, Chip Morton and wife Debbie of Maxton; Doug Morton and wife, Celeste of Pinehurst; adored grandchildren, Tiffany Morton-Hansman and husband, Scott, Taylor Morton, and Cameron Morton; great granddaughter, Penelope Flora Morton-Hansman; sister, Evalyn “Snooky” Abbott; along with her nieces, nephews and loving extended family.

Her services will be held at graveside 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 15th at the Oak Grove Cemetery of Maxton.   Family will have a time of visitation following the service at graveside.
