Coming from a large family of fifteen children, Evelyn was born and raised in Portsmouth, Ohio, and graduated from Portsmouth High School, class of 1954. Eventually, fate and life led her to Laurinburg, NC, in 1978, and she pursued a career in retail management before owning a lawn-mower shop, Rushin Equipment, with husband Raymond R. Rushin.
Mother, Wife, Friend, Lover of God, and Protector. She never met a stranger. She was the child of John Brannan and Mary Brannan, both deceased. Evelyn had five children and was the neighborhood Mom for so many others.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond R. Rushin; son, Kenneth Steven Maynard; daughter, Denise Lynn Stokes; and son Jeffrey Darryl Maynard. She is survived by son Douglas A. Maynard, daughter Terri R. Gantt, grandchildren David S. Gantt, Christina Rushin, Richard R. Rushin, two sisters, Ida Johnson, and Martha Brannan, and special friends, Starr Anne & Billy Wethington.
Evelyn will live forever in our hearts, our memories, and as the newest angel of God. One of a kind, and one of the best. Forever cherished and loved. The absolute best.
A private graveside service was held on Wednesday, May 27, 2026 in Spring Hill Cemetery.
