Evelyn Locklear Oxendine

Evelyn Locklear Oxendine of Maxton was the last surviving child of the late Jimmy and Flora Locklear born August 12, 1938 in Robeson County, North Carolina.  Evelyn was the devoted wife to the late Monroe Oxendine and loving mother of five children.  She was strong in her faith, an honorable role model for her entire family. Along with being a homemaker, she also worked many years in textiles.  She faithfully served God and was a devoted member of the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church.  Caring for her family was most important to Evelyn along with enjoying her time sewing and working in her flower gardens.  To her family, Evelyn will be cherished as a wonderful mother, grandmother, aunt and devoted friend.  Her legacy of love will remain with those she loved.  She passed to her Heavenly home at the age of 83 on May 27, 2022.

Along with her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her sons, Jeffery Oxendine and Johnnie Lee Oxendine, and daughter-in-law, Mary Oxendine; brothers, Clarence Locklear, Beck Locklear, DL Locklear, Lacey Locklear; sisters, Mary Oxendine, Hazel Jones, Annie Jane Hammonds and Etta Mae Lowery.

Evelyn is survived by her children, Annie “Pearl” Oxendine Norton (Ben) of Maxton, Randy Oxendine (Jacqueline) of Wilmington, Danny Oxendine (Amanda) of the home; daughter-in-law, Beverly Oxendine; ten grandchildren, Michael Oxendine, Kevin Oxendine, Brian Norton, Laura Lee Thompson, Amanda O. Williams, Karen Deal, Jessica Oxendine, Tristan Oxendine, Zachary Oxendine, Mason Oxendine and twelve great grandchildren; along with her many nieces, nephews, and devoted friend, Jenny Renfro.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church with burial following in the Oxendine Family Cemetery.   

Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening, May 31st at Richard Boles Funeral Service.
