Ethel Mae Locklear Obituary

Ethel Mae Hunt Locklear of Maxton departed this life for her Heavenly home at the age of 68 on May 3, 2025.

She was born September 22, 1956 in Robeson County, NC, adored daughter of the late Cornelius and Pearlie Jane Chavis Hunt. Ethel formerly worked with the Robeson County and Scotland County School System as a school bus driver and in textiles with Stedman prior to retiring from Abbott Laboratories. She loved being a Pastor’s wife to her late husband, Rev. Daniel Locklear and going on their missionary trips to share the love of Jesus. Ethel faithfully attended Youth for Christ Holiness Church where she enjoyed worshipping and singing in the choir. She enjoyed shopping, trips to the mountains, canning her bountiful garden harvest, and being a wonderful cook. Ethel cherished time spent with her family and friends and the memories they created. She will be truly missed and remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, adored sister, and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by brothers, Cornelius Junior Hunt, Craven Nelson Hunt, Dennis “Shorty” Hunt; sisters, Martha Ann Hunt, Mary “Tussie” Elizabeth Oxendine, and Flora “Sally Jane” Mae Clark.

Left to cherish her memory is daughters, Rose Marie Wilkins and husband, Jerry of Shannon, Teresa Kay Locklear, Victoria Locklear (Joey), and Constance Danielle Locklear (Scottie) each of Maxton; brothers, James “Buddy” Earl Hunt of Pembroke, Johnny Hunt (Cathy) of Rowland; sisters, Verta Rae Hunt of Rowland, Annie “Diana” Dale Oxendine of Lumberton, Diane “Scrubby” Hunt of Pembroke; grandchildren, Taylor Locklear, Kendall Strickland, Makaylah Barton, Houston Wilkins, Tori K.
