Esther Thompson Leviner, of Hamlet, NC, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend departed this life at the age of 83 on Monday, October 2, 2023.
The loving daughter of the late Rev. Jasper Thompson and the late Mary Locklear Thompson, she was born on January 11, 1940 in Dillon County, South Carolina. Esther was a devoted member of the Bible Freewill Church of Worship where she loved attending, singing with the congregation or in the choir, and listening to her favorite gospel music. She enjoyed fishing, tending to her garden, snapping beans and shelling peas. Esther took great pleasure in creating a welcoming, warm home for her family where they shared many wonderful homecooked meals around the dinner table. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered for her love and devotion to her family and friends.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her adored husband of 58 years, Alexander Leviner Sr.; son, John William Leviner; daughter, Betty Jean Leviner; three brothers, and six sisters.
Left to rejoice in her memory are sons, Donnie Leviner of Charlotte, Robert Leviner (Polly) of Laurel Hill, Rev. James “Tommy” Leviner (Robin), Richard Leviner, Alexander Leviner, Jr. (Jackie) each of Hamlet, James A. Leviner of Rockingham, Michael Anthony Leviner also of Rockingham; daughters, Ann N. Leviner of Hamlet, April Leviner of the home; sisters, Sarah J. Sewell and Bonnie Leviner both of Hamlet, and Joyce Thompson of Gibson, thirty-eight grandchildren; and seventy great-grandchildren; along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. on Friday, October 6, 2023 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel with burial following in the Bible Freewill Church of Worship Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday evening at Richard Boles Funeral Service.
