Ercel Brock Quick

Mrs. Ercel Brock Quick of Laurinburg at the age of 97 was called to her Heavenly home in the early morning of Easter Sunday, April 5, 2026.   She lived a long, full life and was a blessing to those who knew her. 

Ercel was one of seven children of the late Richard and Vera Weatherly Brock born August 19, 1928 in Union County, North Carolina.   She married her sweetheart, Daniel Belton “D.B,” Quick on June 23, 1946, sharing a life together for 66 years until his passing.  In addition to being a homemaker, she worked many years in textiles with WestPoint Stevens, Inc., until retiring.  She then enjoyed assisting her late daughter, Brenda serving customers at the florist.   She was a strong-willed Godly woman who faithfully served as a lifelong member of Sneads Grove United Methodist Church where she loved caring for others, especially during the annual Ingathering. 

Those who had the pleasure of knowing Mrs. Ercel knew how much she loved to cook and share her delicious meals and desserts with everyone, especially her famous cakes.  She proudly served as a member of The Laurinburg Pilot Club and truly enjoyed being part of The Red Hat Society.  She was a kind soul who always had an encouraging word to lift one’s spirits.   To her family, she was a loving mother and grandmother, a devoted sister and aunt who will deeply be missed.   

Along with her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her daughters, Brenda Quick Dow and Rita Quick Patterson; son-in-law, Randy Dow, sisters, Zelma Quick, Blanche Tyner, Rosa Sanderson, and Virginia Dunn.

Mrs. Quick is survived by her daughter, Denece Quick Drose and husband, Perry of Laurinburg; son-in-law, Garland Patterson of Wagram; brother, Earl Brock and wife, Suzanne of Laurel Hill; sister, Marian Shiver of Jacksonville; grandsons, David Dow and wife Amber, Kevin Patterson and wife Terri, Blaine Drose and wife Carmen; and five great grandchildren.  She also leaves a host of loving nieces, nephews and a host of extended family.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 10, 2026 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel followed by burial in Hillside Memorial Park.    Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
