Emma "Carolyn" Doss Smith

Emma “Carolyn” Doss Smith of Laurinburg, NC passed away at the age of 87 on September 15, 2025.

She was the loving daughter of the late Marvin and Mary Moss Doss, born May 22, 1938 in Guilford County, North Carolina. Carolyn as she was fondly known, was a homemaker who took great pleasure in taking care of her family and creating a warm and inviting home for her loved ones. She was a faithful follower of Jesus and longtime member of South Laurinburg Baptist, and later Skyway Baptist Church. Carolyn was a member of WMU Women’s Ministry and enjoyed cooking a delicious meal and sewing.  She will be dearly missed and remembered for her love and devotion to her family.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Marcus Wilkes Smith; son, Thomas Clinton Smith; and siblings, Mitchel Doss and Shelby Miller.

Left to cherish her memory is son, Michael Reed Smith of Laurinburg; daughters, Marcia Elizabeth Smith of Charlotte, Vickie Lynn Riggins (Jerry), and Cynthia Marie Smith both of Laurinburg; brother, Robert Doss; sisters, Rosie Bullard, Nancy Willis; grandchildren, Phillip Williams, Michael “Andrew” Smith, Janet Lynn Fowler, Emily Kay Sheffield (Jonathan), Mark Anthony Smith; and great-grandchildren, Shylon Sheffield, Elijah Owens Sheffield, Emiyah Sheffield, Alona Sheffield, Rosaleah Sheffield, Brandon Britt, and Blake Britt; along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

The service will be held at graveside 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 18, 2025 in Hillside Memorial Park.
