Emery Hunt Obituary

Mr. Emery Hunt of Laurinburg, NC passed away at the age of 85 on August 28, 2025.

He was born May 28, 1940 in Robeson County, NC, loving son of the late Earl “Bill” Hunt and the late Nancy Oxendine Hunt. Emery had a fulfilling 30-year career as a school teacher serving with the Oxendine School and South Robeson High School until retiring. He loved playing golf proudly achieving four hole-in- one. He was professional poker player who played in the World Series of Poker, along with being a two-time North Carolina State Marble Champion, and a Bingo Champion.  Emery was an avid sports fan of the University of North Carolina Tarheels, Los Angeles Dodgers, and the Washington Redskins.  He also enjoyed quiet time watching his favorite television programs, western movies and Castle.

Emery was known as a big jokester; he always had a smile on his face and a joke to tell. His home and his heart was always open especially for the children.  His greatest joy came from time spent with his family and the memories they shared. He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend who will be dearly missed.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Williams Hunt; brothers, Henry “Buster” Hunt, Conrad “Feet” Hunt, Delbert Hunt, Welbert Hunt, Wyvis Hunt; and sisters, Ava “Honey” Knight and Liddy Mae Hunt.

Left to rejoice in his memory are sons, William “Chi Chi” Hunt of Laurinburg, James E. Hunt (April) of Maxton; daughter, Stephanie Lowery (Robbie) of Bolivia; siblings, Ardell Hunt of Pembroke and Carolyn Hunt of Raleigh; grandchildren, Paige Jones, Christian Jones (Megan), Chase Lowery, Chance Lowery, Callie Lowery, Aaron Hunt (Bailey), Amelia Hunt; and great-grandchildren, Theodore Hunt and Caison Ray Murphy Locklear; along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
