Elsie Chavis Deese

Elsie Chavis Deese was born April 29, 1936 in Robeson County, daughter of the late Amaziah and Ada Chavis. She departed her life on Tuesday, March 25, 2025.

Elsie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph Deese; two sons, Tony Deese and Donald Deese; four brothers, Marvin Chavis, Lewis Chavis, Laudell Chavis, and Max Chavis; two sisters, Evelyn Chavis Scott and Viola West; grandson, Jessie Locklear; two great-grandchildren, Atrian Locklear and Lilianna Locklear.

She is survived by daughter, Sandra Locklear (James); two daughter-in-law’s, Patricia Deese and Rose Deese; nine grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends that loved her dearly.  

Elsie worked in the textile industry with Charles Craft retiring after 25 dedicated years. She left her mark everywhere she went, was fondly known by everyone, and considered a pioneer to those in her community.  Elsie enjoyed traveling the world and spending time with her family. She was the queen of the family and will be forever missed.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, March 28, 2025 at Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel with burial following in the House of Christ Church Cemetery.

A time of visitation will be held prior to services beginning 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
