Ellis Marion Covil, Jr., devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, brother and friend, departed this life for his Heavenly home at the age of 82 on Saturday, October 28, 2023 surrounded by his loving family.

Marion was the son of the late Ellis Marion Covil, Sr., and the late Hattie Evelyn Webb Covil born August 27, 1941 in New Hanover County, North Carolina.  His life of service began when proudly enlisting and serving his country in the United States Army. He married his beloved soulmate, Vera Ann Gainous, lovingly named “Bebe” and began their life together and raising their family in a Christ filled home. His working career also revolved around service with the Bellsouth Telephone Company until retiring after 35 dedicated years.

Marion loved the Lord and faithfully served as a member of the First Baptist Church where he was a Deacon of the Church, Sunday School Teacher, Childrens Bible Study Teacher, and assisted with Vacation Bible School.  Church and community were important to Marion, he was a member and former Chief of the Ogden Volunteer Fire Department in New Hanover County, along with being a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Wilmington. He was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America dedicated to help others in need.

Marion was an avid outdoorsman.  He enjoyed gardening, deer hunting, along with wood working. He and others of the First Baptist Church were members of the Ramp Team building ramps to help those in need. Above all, he cherished his family and their time shared together.

He is preceded in death by his son, Mark Shannon Covil, Sr.
