Effie Watson Williams of Wilmington, NC, formerly of Laurinburg, departed this life at the age of 100 on Tuesday, July 25, 2023.
She was born on March 22, 1923 to late George Fairley Watson and Etta Redding Watson. She grew up on the family farm in Hoke County and had fond memories of the Riverton community. Effie retired as a registered nurse at Scotland Memorial Hospital in Laurinburg after many years of dedicated service. Her caring nature followed her in the retirement home as she was affectionately called “Florence Nightingale.” Effie would “make her rounds” moving from room to room checking on residents in her wheelchair. She was a lifelong member of Centre Presbyterian Church in Maxton. Quotes that our mother used in life were: “Life can’t go your way all the time.” “Be nice, everyone is different.”
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Williams; grandson, Wes Craver; brothers, Archie Watson and George Watson; sisters, Ruth Howell, Frances Tisdale, and Rosa Cooper.
Effie is survived by son, William “Billy” H. Lee, Jr. (Judy) of Rock Hill, SC; daughters, Janet Love Lee Craver (Bob) of Jamestown, NC and Sarah Catherine Lee of Wilmington, NC; grandchildren, Heather Lee and Courtney Lee; and great-granddaughter, Sophia Coleman; along with many nieces and nephews.,
