Mr. Edward Wellington Jolly, age 83, of Laurinburg, NC, passed away at home on Wednesday, September 21, 2022. He was born March 14, 1939, in Laurel Hill, NC, the son of the late Adolphus Wellington Jolly and Brookie Della Gause Jolly. Mr. Jolly was a U.S. Air Force veteran and served in the North Carolina National Guard from 1965 to 1993.
While unaffiliated with a denomination or congregation, Mr. Jolly was a man of tremendous faith who dedicated himself to his family and country.
He spent his career in the textiles as an industrial engineer and cost accountant. He was employed by Morgan Mills, Springs Mills, and West Point Stephens before retiring in 2005. He graduated from Laurinburg High School in 1957 and attended Western Carolina University following his military service. He was a standout athlete for Laurinburg High School where he played varsity football, basketball, and baseball.
A devoted husband and father, Mr. Jolly is survived by his wife of 58 years, Carolyn Smith Jolly; his son, Michael W. Jolly and partner Jeff Prince of Charlotte, NC; his sister, Caroline Jolly Nixon and husband Ray of Fancy Gap, VA; nieces, Amanda Nixon, Brandy Pletcher, Sandra Larrimore; and nephew, Nathan Nixon.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Helen Jolly Larrimore and his most recent beloved feline companion, “Dixie.”
Mr. Jolly had numerous hobbies over the years, including his passion for skydiving, completing more than 450 jumps. He was a gun collector, motorcyclist, reader, and film enthusiast with a particular passion for westerns and science fiction.
The family will remember Mr. Jolly privately, but expressions of remembrance and condolence are welcome and appreciated.
