Edell Canady Freeman

Mrs. Edell Canady Freeman of Gibson departed this life for her Heavenly home at the age of 93 on November 14, 2024.

She was born in Robeson County, North Carlina on November 28, 1930, daughter of the late Raymond and Mary Black Canady. Edell worked in the textile industry for forty-two years with WestPoint Stevens, Inc, formerly J.P. Stevens until retiring. She served as a longtime devoted member of Springfield Church of God, who was a true servant of Christ and faithful prayer warrior for all. Edell enjoyed tending her flower garden and working in her yard. Cooking, especially cakes and pies for her family and friends gave her great joy. Edell will be dearly missed and remembered as a devoted, Christian loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, William J. “W.J.” Freeman; brothers, Sonny Canady, Delton Canady, Buddy Canady; and sister, Revie Locklear.

Left to cherish her memory are sons, Kenny Freeman of Midland, NC and William T. “Timmy” Freeman of Garden City, SC; daughter, Geraldine F. Blackwell (Taz) of Gibson; sisters, Annie Ruth Oxendine and Janice Oxendine; grandchildren, Paige Soles ( Ray ), Scotty Blackwell ( Cheryl ), Kaylee Freeman, Colby Freeman; great grandchildren, Brooke King (Kyle), Lindsay Chavis (Nick), Keith Blackwell, Mallory Tickell, Aaron Brown, Kaytlin Short, Kathleen Ard; great-great grandchildren, Paisleigh Hendrix, Bryce King, Sutton Blackwell, Madisynn Chavis, Leilani Chavis, and Miles Chavis; along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, extended family, devoted friends, and her church family.

Her Homegoing Celebration will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, November 18, 2024 at the Springfield Church of God with burial following in Pinecrest Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be held prior to services on Monday beginning at 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Springfield Church of God.
