Dorothy Faye Clark Obituary

Dorothy Grooms Clark, 74, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, August 18, 2024, surrounded by her loving family after an extended illness with cancer.

Dorothy was the daughter of Allen Grooms and Dovie Bell Locklear Grooms born in Scotland County on May 7, 1950. She was the oldest girl of eleven siblings, and after losing her mother at the young age of 15, she quickly took over and became the mother to her younger brother and sisters.

Dorothy retired from the Eaton Corporation after thirty years of service as a customer service representative. Her hobbies included bowling, playing cards, golf, shagging at North Myrtle Beach and spending time at Carolina Beach with a rod and reel in her hands. She was an excellent cook and was the hostess for all of her family’s holiday gatherings. Her greatest joy was time spent with all of her family and her two great-grandchildren, Avaree and Stetson.

Dorothy is survived by her son, Howard Melvin Clark, Jr, (Dawn) of Laurinburg, NC; two grandsons: Adam Clark (Carmen) and Austin Clark (Cassey) of McColl, SC and two great-grandchildren, Avaree Laine and Stetson Lee; two brothers: Jennings Grooms (Bernice) and Robert Grooms (Becky) of McColl, SC; four sisters: Carolyn Grooms, Gladys Marie Lee (Larry) and Loraine Lesley of McColl, SC and Darlene Grooms Rosario (Alberto) of Goldsboro, NC., five sisters-in-law: Phyllis Grooms of McColl, SC, Glennis Haux, Lenora Gardner, and Ann Jones, all of Laurinburg, NC and Madge Hughes of Troy, NC; two brothers-in-law, Jerry Clark of Albemarle, NC and Ronald Clark of Laurinburg, NC.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents listed above; husband of 54 years, Howard Melvin Clark, daughter-in-law, Tina Coble Clark, and four brothers; Marshall, John Allen, Melvin, and Richard Grooms.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel officiated by Rev. Woody Byrd.   Visitation with the family will be held prior to the service beginning at 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
