Mrs. Dorothy Mae McKenzie Thigpen, fondly known as Dot, departed this life for her Heavenly home at the age of 94 on February 11, 2025.
Dot was the loving daughter of the late James Cleve McKenzie and the late Launa Bingham McKenzie, born October 19, 1930, in Clarendon County, South Carolina. In September 1948, she would marry the love of her life, Willie Mack Thigpen, with whom she shared a beautiful life until his passing in 2017. Dot served as a faithful member of Wagram Church of God. She was a devoted homemaker who loved creating a warm and welcoming home for her family and friends. Dot’s greatest joy and number one priority was caring for her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend who will be dearly missed.
Along with her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by sister, Elsie Spring.
Left to cherish her memory are sons, Jeryl “Jerry” Thigpen and wife, Daphne of Maxton, their children Jennifer and Jill. Jimmy Thigpen and wife, Ivey of Laurinburg, their children Emily, Mallory and Katherine. Steve Thigpen and wife, Stephanie of Harrisonburg, VA, and their children Chelsea, Hillary, Tucker and Hannah. Eric Thigpen of Sneads Ferry, his daughter Stella and her mother Sonya of Apex, NC; nineteen great-grandchildren; Sister, Annell Barnhill of Maxton; along with a host of loving extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 14, 2025, at the Wagram Church of God with burial following in Oak Grove Cemetery in Maxton. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services on Friday beginning 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the church.
