Delta Lay Benton Britt was born April 20, 1938 in Brunswick County, daughter of the late Lewis Napoleon Benton and Lovie Christine Hewitt Benton. She was the devoted wife of almost 67 years to Lee Elwood Britt, Sr. who preceded her in death on April 13, 2021. Delta worked over 30 years in food service for students and staff at Townsend Middle School in Maxton. She was a member of Fresh Manna Pentecostal Holiness Church in Maxton where she served as Sunday School teacher for over 40 years. Delta loved her family and devoted her life to taking care of them. She passed away to her Heavenly home at age 82 on April 19, 2021.
Along with her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by sisters, Mildred Aragan, Missouri Booth; brothers, Bonair Benton, Gilbert Benton, William Benton, Goley Benton, and one great grandchild.
She is survived by sons, Lee Elwood Britt, Jr. of Maxton, Lewis Wayne Britt (Edna) of McColl, SC; daughters, Wanda B. Sanderson (Phillip) of Maxton, Carolyn Chavis (Dennis) of Rowland, Janice Pittman of Maxton, Linda Clark (Craig) of Rowland; sisters, Margaret Medlin, Betty Wilkerson; grandchildren, Delta L. Hill, Jessica L. Bruce, April M. Britt, Howard C. Plowman, Craiganna Ellis, nine great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, two step grandchildren, six step great grandchildren, three step great-great great grandchildren, along with many loving nieces, nephews, and friends.
A Graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 22, 2021 in Oak Grove Cemetery in Maxton officiated by Rev. Timmy Hunt. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the graveside.
