Della Hord

Della Chavis Hord, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend departed this life at the age of 80 on August 17, 2025.

She was born October 1, 1944 in Hoke County, NC, daughter of the late John William Chavis and the late Alma Pierce Chavis. Della worked as a Medical Billing Specialist for many years and also loved being a daycare owner until retiring. She served as a faithful member of Highland Baptist Church. Della enjoyed gardening, traveling, and cooking. She loved taking care of her family and time spent together creating many wonderful memories. Della will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure to know and love her.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by brothers, Clayton Chavis, John Chavis, Homer Chavis; sisters, Rosa Lee Chavis Slawson, Carol Chavis Phillips, Irene Chavis Sierpien, and Anne Chavis Barber.

Left to cherish her memory is her adored husband of 38 years, William Joseph Hord; daughters, Shelby Yow Hayes and husband, and Mark, Joy Yow Reece and husband, Jeffrey; sister, Linda Chavis Garner; grandchildren, Megan Hayes-Diaz (Devin), Morgan Reece (Forest Edmisten), Richard Reece; and great-grandchild, Reece Edmisten; along with many extended family and friends.
