Debra South

On Sunday morning, September 21, 2025, Debra Ann South gained her angel wings and went to spend eternity with her son, Christopher Michael South, husband, Frank Aaron Minchew, father, Lloyd Johnston, and the Lord. She left behind her daughter, Heather (Patrick) Locklear; grandchildren: Syrrah (Jeremy) Baker and Devin (Kristy) Backus; great-grandchildren: Zane Backus, Kennedi Backus, Greyson Crabtree, and Masyn Baker; bonus son Brett Thomas of Australia, bonus grands Brandon (Taleya) McDonald, Justina (Bradley) Butler; bonus great-grand Asher Butler all of Laurinburg, North Carolina. She is survived by her mother, Loretta Johnston, sister, Aleda Gourley, and brother David (Akaren) Johnston along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins of Bay St Louis, Mississippi.

Debbie was born December 19, 1954 in Gulfport, Mississippi. She completed her Bachelor’s degree from William Carey with Honors and gained her Master’s degree with Honors in Psychology from Walden University. She enjoyed painting, bird watching, and reading. She had the mouth of a sailor, courage of a warrior, and a heart of gold.

Debbie was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and daughter. Her greatest joy in life was her family, and she gave of herself fully and selflessly to ensure that those she loved felt supported, encouraged, and cherished. We are heartbroken by her loss, but we are deeply grateful for the time we had with her. Her spirit will remain forever in our hearts, her love a light that will never fade. She will be missed more than words can ever express.

An intimate memorial for family and friends will be held Sunday, September 28th at 2pm, located at 12421 Shaw Road, Laurinburg NC.
